About
About Level One
Level One Radiology is an independent publication about emergency radiology. It has one author, no institution, and no sponsor.
I'm Michael Hood, an emergency radiologist at Mass General Brigham in Boston. I read the trauma and emergency imaging this site writes about. The content comes from that work: the findings that change management, the calls that are hard to make, and how the field is changing.
Why this exists
Radiology has journals for rigor and trade sites for speed, and not much in between. Journal teaching arrives a year late and reads like a textbook. Trade coverage is fast but thin. This site is for the middle: educational deep-dives, commentary while the topic still matters, and teaching cases you can use on your next shift.
What to expect
Articles are the product. Deep-dives explain the mechanism before the findings, so the signs are findable rather than just recognizable. Commentary takes a position. Cases support the teaching rather than standing alone. Articles run as long as the teaching requires and no longer.
New articles go out by email about once a week. Subscribe at the bottom of this page or use the RSS feed.
